Anyways, in response to the Newtown, Connecticut shooting where Adam Lanza supposedly killed 20 students with an "Assault Rifle," Obama proposed his recent gun ban. Parts of it are based off of the same elements that Clinton's ban contained, but this time it is much worse. It proposes to ban around 80% of the firearms circulating/commonly used right now all for "the safety of our citizens, and mostly children." He is proposing to ban all "Assault Weapons," place a capacity limit of 10 rounds per firearm, and tighten up background checks before the purchase of a firearm.

Each of these proposals directly infringes on our constitutional right to bear arms.

Obama, Biden, and many of our uninformed or anti-gun citizens are taking the wrong step to end these shootings, if those are what they are even after.

Fun fact: In the Newtown, Connecticut (Sandy Hook) school shooting, the alleged "Assault Rifle" that was "used" for the massacre was not even used.

On January 18th, details from the Federal investigation of the Sandy Hook shooting were released. They stated, and were later proven by video footage, that there were 4 handguns discovered in the school that were involved in the shooting, and the assault rifle remained fully loaded and untouched in the trunk of Adam's mother's car. Also, prior to the shooting Adam attempted to purchase an AR-15 to use in the shooting and was turned down.

In other words pistol's were proven to be used during the shooting, not the alleged assault rifle, and this is still pushing some anti-gun loving American citizens emotionally to vote to have them banned because they are the cause of the shooting, when they're not. One phrase that every gun enthusiast knows by heart is, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people," and it's 100% true. Some citizens, Senator Feinstein, VP Biden, and even our President Obama need to take this phrase into serious consideration, because a gun control ban will cause no beneficial effect and this has been proven in the past.

First off lets get one very important thing straight, this is the 2nd Amendment from the Bill of Rights which has been granted to us from our founding fathers in 1789.

Amendment II: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

“The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” - Thomas Jefferson

It was put into place mainly for citizens to use as defense against the government and to protect our freedom (our only other right of enough importance to proceed our right to bear arms). Nowhere in the constitution does it read that we are given this right for sporting and hunting uses, it just states the fact that we are given this right and by NO MEANS shall it be infringed.

Another huge thing that the American people, AND MOSTLY OUR PRESIDENT, need to realize is the fact that we are not a democracy. We might be led by president with democratic views, but we are not a democracy. We are a constitutional republic, meaning that no matter what majority of the population votes for, you are guaranteed rights through the constitution and under no means shall they be infringed upon, even if the majority of citizens vote to have it be changed.
I have done much research for school and personal benefits and have once again come to realize how uninformed the average american is on many topics, but this topic I could not remain speechless about. I have decided to create this blog to inform those who are interested with facts in the form of statistics and gained from events that our country has already experienced along with my opinion over what is happening regarding all of the gun restriction proposals, and what outcome these proposals may lead to.
