First off lets get one very important thing straight, this is the 2nd Amendment from the Bill of Rights which has been granted to us from our founding fathers in 1789.

Amendment II: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

“The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” - Thomas Jefferson

It was put into place mainly for citizens to use as defense against the government and to protect our freedom (our only other right of enough importance to proceed our right to bear arms). Nowhere in the constitution does it read that we are given this right for sporting and hunting uses, it just states the fact that we are given this right and by NO MEANS shall it be infringed.

Another huge thing that the American people, AND MOSTLY OUR PRESIDENT, need to realize is the fact that we are not a democracy. We might be led by president with democratic views, but we are not a democracy. We are a constitutional republic, meaning that no matter what majority of the population votes for, you are guaranteed rights through the constitution and under no means shall they be infringed upon, even if the majority of citizens vote to have it be changed.
